Omega 8006 Masticating Juicer

Omega 8006 Juicer

We just upgraded to this model last week for several reasons.  The price point on the other juicer was really nice, particularly for average juicers, but we have clearly blown right by into the "heavy juicer" category.

A lot of juice was being wasted due to the "shred and spin" style of the other juicer - the pulp being spun out was really wet, even after putting it through a second time.  We (okay, Boyfriend) did some (A LOT of) research and settled on this juicer after it was determined that we would get about 30% more juice out of our fruits and veggies.  So Boyfriend computed that we'd save the difference in price in money saved on produce in 4-6 weeks or something. SOLD!

The difference with a masticating juicer is that it actually squeezes the juice out of the fruit, vegetable or leaves, to get more juice.  It also doesn't heat the juice, like the centrifugal juicers do, so the juice doesn't break down as fast - you can store in the fridge for a bit longer than the spun juice, which you should drink within 20 minutes to get the most benefit.

And the spinning style juicers won't even touch leafy greens, just instantly spins them into the pulp catcher.  We wanted to start juicing wheatgrass,  so that wasn't going to do.  I've already planted four trays of wheatgrass - hoo-yah!

I also find it much easier to assemble, disassemble, and clean than the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer.  Especially considering we use it 2 - 3 times a day, and don't have a dishwasher.  Unless you count Boyfriend...
